I’m almost done with A Million Little Pieces by James Fray and throughout the book he refuses to recover with the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) tools. He feels he is just giving up one drug for another (that of meetings, methods, tools).

I recently read a Gaping Void cartoon on a similar, but more humerus, topic.

I wonder, do you ever feel like you’re just giving up one drug for another?

Addiction is a crazy thing because it comes in many forms. There is addiction to alcohol, drugs, and food but also addiction to things like work, computers, sex, and many other things we never think of. Then there is the distinction between a “functioning” and a “recovering” addict.

I think we are all drawn to something, more or less, but some suffer from a stronger addiction that is not easy to overcome.
