Tom Evslin has a nice post on when to and when not to bet the company. There are many parallels to poker players and makes an interesting read. The moral is that you will never have all the facts in making decisions but that should not prevent you from making them. You need to have a portfolio or risk management and strategic moves to get you where you want to go.
